Economic Security Is National Security.

In times of war and regional escalation, the concept of security can no longer be limited to its military dimension. It now encompasses economic security, which depends on the ability of critical infrastructure and public services to continue functioning under all circumstances, ensuring the continuity of economic activity.

The regular functioning of the economy relies on resilient infrastructure capable of sustaining operations without interruption. This includes, in particular, internet and telecommunications networks, transportation and logistics services, and all systems that constitute the backbone of the economy.

Any disruption to these systems would lead to supply chain interruptions and operational disruptions within institutions, thereby affecting economic flows. The consequences would not be limited to companies or the formal economy, but would directly impact people’s daily lives and their ability to secure their basic needs.

It is therefore essential to work toward:

  • Ensuring the continuity of public services by safeguarding the resilience of critical infrastructure that underpins economic activity, particularly by protecting internet and telecommunications networks, which are essential for business continuity and for connecting Lebanon to the world.

  • Preserving logistical capacities and supply lines to ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential goods and services, particularly food security and medical services.

Protecting critical infrastructure during times of crisis is therefore a fundamental condition for economic security, societal stability, and the safeguarding of essential needs.
