Urgent Appeal: Equal Voting Rights for Lebanon’s Diaspora

A Call for Justice and National Interest

The Lebanese diaspora must be granted the right to vote for all 128 members of Parliament based on the districts in which they are registered in Lebanon—not limited to the six continental seats currently allocated to them. Furthermore, diaspora members should be able to vote from their countries of residence, as was the case during the 2022 parliamentary elections.

This is not a partisan issue, but one of national interest, justice, and respect for those who continue to uphold Lebanon through unwavering support.

Restricting diaspora voting rights severs a vital connection between Lebanon and its global citizens. The diaspora's ties to their towns, villages, and national identity are not only cultural and emotional, but also economic. Amid years of failed governance and financial collapse, it is the diaspora—despite losing their savings in Lebanese banks—who continue to sustain families, communities, and local businesses through remittances and investment.

To alienate them now by denying their full and equal voting rights is to jeopardize one of Lebanon’s most critical lifelines. Their contributions to Lebanon’s survival, recovery, and future must be recognized and safeguarded—not diminished.

The Lebanese Private Sector Network urgently calls on the Speaker of Parliament to immediately bring to vote the draft law—submitted by MPs and endorsed by 65 parliamentary signatures—that restores full electoral rights to the diaspora.

This bill is a vital step toward justice, inclusion, and empowering the diaspora to play their rightful role in rebuilding Lebanon and shaping its future.

يجب أن يُمنح المنتشرون اللبنانيون حق الاقتراع الكامل لانتخاب جميع أعضاء مجلس النواب الـ128، بحسب دوائر قيدهم في لبنان، وليس فقط لأحد المقاعد القارية الستة المخصصة لهم حالياً. كما يجب تيسير اقتراعهم في بلدان إقامتهم في الخارج، كما كانت الحال في الانتخابات النيابية التي جرت عام 2022

لا يجب مقاربة هذه المسألة من باب التنافس السياسي الداخلي أو تحقيق المكاسب، بل باعتبارها قضية وطنية بامتياز، تتعلق بالعدالة والإنصاف، وبالاعتراف بمن صمد وما زال يصمد في دعم لبنان

إن حصر اقتراع المنتشرين بمقاعد محدودة يفكك الرابط المتين الذي يجمعهم بوطنهم الأم، بمدنهم وقراهم وهويتهم اللبنانية. وهذه الروابط ليست فقط ثقافية وحضارية، بل اقتصادية أيضاً. فمع الانهيار الشامل الذي ضرب لبنان نتيجة السياسات الخاطئة وسوء الحوكمة، لعب المنتشرون دوراً أساسياً في تعويم الاقتصاد، ودعم اللبنانيين من مختلف المناطق والانتماءات، وقطاع الأعمال، رغم فقدانهم لودائعهم في المصارف اللبنانية.

إقصاء المنتشرين اليوم، ومنعهم من المشاركة الكاملة في تقرير مصير وطنهم، هو خطر جسيم يهدد أحد أعمدة الصمود المتبقية للبنان. فدعمهم لا يجب أن يُقابل بالإقصاء، بل بالتكريم وتعزيز دورهم في إنقاذ وإعمار وطنهم

تدعو شبكة القطاع الخاص اللبناني دولة رئيس مجلس النواب إلى وضع اقتراح القانون المقدَّم من السادة النواب، والمدعوم من 65 نائباً، قيد التصويت في الهيئة العامة في أقرب فرصة ممكنة

فهذا الاقتراح من شأنه إنصاف المنتشرين، وإعادة الحق إليهم بالمشاركة الكاملة في رسم مستقبل لبنان، وطنهم الذي لم يتخلّوا عنه يوماً
